A Montreal tradition celebrates 30 yearsTHE 30TH ANNUAL CBC CHRISTMAS SING-INMontreal, December 1st, 2009 -- CBC Montreal presents the 30th annual CBC Christmas Sing-In on Sunday, December 13th at 3:00 pm. All are invited to come and join in the singing of their favourite Christmas carols at The Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, on Sherbrooke Street West, corner Redpath Ave. The doors will open at 2:00 p.m. and admission is free. The Choir of The Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, Director of Music and Organist Jonathan Oldengarm, and a brass ensemble led by Jean-Michel Malouf will all be under the direction of Jordan de Souza, Conductor at The Church of St Andrew and St Paul. Joining the concert will be Wayne Riddell, the founding conductor of the Sing-In and Director of Music Emeritus at The Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul. Featured on this programme of all-Canadian choral music is the world premiere of Peaceful, the Wondrous Night, by Toronto composer Ruth Watson Henderson, a co-commission of the CBC and The Church of St Andrew and St Paul. All proceeds from the annual freewill offering will go to support the Refuge Juan Moreno. Refuge Juan Moreno opened its doors in August 1993 in response to the growing need for an emergency shelter and the protection of the rights of women and children who are refugee claimants. Sue Smith, host of CBC Radio One's Radio Noon, and Andrew Chang, co-host of CBC News: Montreal at 5, 5:30, 6 pm and 10:55 on CBC Television will be the masters of ceremony for the CBC Christmas Sing-In this year. The CBC Christmas Sing-In will be recorded for broadcast across Canada on CBC Radio 2 and around the world in more than 20 different countries as part of the Euroradio Special Day of Christmas Music on Sunday, December 20th, at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. The Sing-In will be rebroadcast on Christmas Day at 9:05 am on CBC Radio 2 (93.5 in Montreal) and at 12:05 pm on CBC Radio One (88.5 in Montreal) with host Kelly Rice. It will also be broadcast on Christmas Day on Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 137. - 30 -
