A special appeal

An appeal from The Rev. Dr. Dale Woods, Director of Pastoral Studies, Presbyterian College.

Over the past six years, we have taken students to Cuba as part of a cross-cultural experience to help them engage with the larger church. We leave on January 7 and hope to take medical supplies that are much needed by our Cuban brothers and sisters. All have been requested by the Cubans themselves.

It is sometimes possible for physicians or pharmaceutical companies to provide samples for distribution through Cuban physicians. If you have such contacts or wish to contribute new, sealed, end-dated packages of medications, please leave them in the basket in the Narthex on Sunday, December 20.

Types of medications and supplements in greatest demand

            Systemic antibiotics
            Topical Antibiotics
            Anti-parasitic
            Antiulcer

Other products which might come as donations:

Analgesics
Anti-inflammatories
Decongestants
Antibiotic creams (polysporin) and antiobiotic eye drops
Zantac
Benedryl
Advil
Tylenol (adult and childrens)
Immodium
Vitamins:          C B1, B6, B12, E, A, D, Calcium, Multivitamins with Iron (for nursing mothers), Children's Multi-vitamins
Toothpaste
Toothbrushes
Bandaids and wound dressings

Space and weight requirements restrict other products. No narcotics or psychiatric medications, liquid medications like Malox, or soap and shampoo.

Financial donations to this cause may also be left in the basket in the Narthex on December 20. This is an opportunity to serve others in need. Whatever you can do will be helpful.

(This is the sixth year of taking such medications and we are provided with a letter from the Seminary in Cuba that allows us to transport them into Cuba).
