AuditionsWe envision the choir as a challenging and rewarding experience for all our singers, and we work hard to make our rehearsals a supportive, encouraging learning environment. Since social interaction is a central part of the choral experience, we hold special receptions and social activities throughout the season: choral singing need not be all work and no play! We normally rehearse on Thursday evenings from 18h30 until 20h30, although during peak seasons (November, early December, and leading up to Holy Week) Thursday rehearsals are sometimes extended by one hour, and occasional additional rehearsals are scheduled. We warm up on Sunday mornings from 10h00 until 10h45, and the church service begins at 11h00 and lasts about one hour. If you would like to become a volunteer member of the choir, we would ask you to perform a simple audition for the Director of Music and the Conductor. We would like to hear you sing a hymn of your choice, the melody line and also one of the harmony parts (alto, tenor, or bass, or a descant line if you are a soprano). Given the amount of music that we perform, we ask that all of our singers, whether paid or volunteer, be able to read music. We may also ask you to read a simple melody at sight, if necessary with some help from one of us at the piano! Should you have any questions about joining the choir, or if you would like more information, please contact us by email at music@standrewstpaul.com, or by telephone at 514-842-9991. We look forward to welcoming you!
