Reaching out to the community
"A theology of giving seduces us into believing that our ‘gifts' to God are ours to begin with. The truth is just the opposite. Everything we have is a trust from God. Everything." A challenging year ahead! The Mission and Outreach Committee has turned the page to a new year filled with new initiatives. The 2010 edition of the successful "ReachOut for OutReach" auction is planned for Saturday evening, April 10, with an extra touch - a "Taste of the Nations" buffet. The next day will be "Flag Day," with flags of the 20 or 30 nations represented in our congregation on parade. We have already launched an action plan to increase our partnership with the Tyndale-St. Georges Community Centre, an active family-focused hive of activity in Little Burgundy. We are actively seeking participants for a visit to St. Andrews Church and related Presbyterian missions in Nairobi, Kenya later this year, and we are in the process of identifying specific missions of Presbyterian World Service & Development and Presbyterians Sharing which which to link our generous congregation.
Although our good friend Kiza Joey is hard at work in school, he remains an active and popular member of the church community. With the very positive experience he has proviced, we look forward to expanding our work with such organizations as Actions Réfugiés Montréal. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. (Hebrews 13:2)
