Sherbrooke Street improvementsOn June 6, the City of Montreal began to refurbish the east side of avenue du Musée and the north side of Sherbrooke Street in front of the Musée des Beaux Arts and our church.. Work will be done in three phases. Work underway at Sherbrooke and Guy streets is officially due to end by June 24 at the latest. AV DU MUSÉE - closed from mid-July until the end of September with additional closing for one or two days prior mid-July. SHERBROOKE OUEST - sidewalk access to the Church not available for 2 weeks June 6 to July 7 for excavation by the CIty to a depth of 1,5 metres in front of the church with no interruption of electrical services. HOWEVER: we have negotiated temporary sidewalk access to the front steps for Sunday until 2 p.m. (via Sherbrooke/Redpath corner) and for the organ recitals and open house on Thurs. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from July 7 to the end of August. There will be no cement removal (noise) on Sunday nor on Thursday (from 11h30 to 13h00). At present the only bus stops available for us are at Mountain Street. The bus stop will be moved to the corner of Redpath/Sherbrooke (loss of 5 additional parking spots) with refuse containers. The Sherbrooke sidewalk will be widened. At no time will the Church owned pavement below the front steps be touched. Sherbrooke street auto acces will grow to three lanes shortly. REDPATH - probable closing for "all but local traffic" for 6 days sometime during the summer. HOWEVER: we have negotiated that there will be Sunday automobile access to the porte-cochère up to 14h00 during the closure and that traffic will be two way, and use the Port-Royal laneway toward Simpson ( now open) as exit. This information should be given to Atlas Taxis who service the Church on Sundays. |
