PWS&D/Pakistan Walkathon to Tyndale St-Georges
On Sunday, September 25, children and adults from our church enoyed lively walk through the streets of Montreal to raise funds for an international mission of Presbyterian World Service and Development, the development and relief agency of our national church.
There were hot dogs with all the trimmings and before we left, and delicious desserts at Tyndale to restore our energy. The food we enjoyed in abundance was a dramatic reminder of the reason we walked.
Founded in 1927 by a member of our church, Tyndale St-Georges provides a wide variety of programs for children and families, plus a broad range of employability programs in this neighbourhood long known as the first home for thousands of newcomers to Canada. |
A Constant State of Vulnerability
The Walkathon raised almost $2,000 that PWS&D will use in the village of Mirpurkhas, in Sindh province in southeast Pakistan. In that mixed community of Hindus, Muslims and a minority of Christians, a food security program has been developed for families who eat but one daily meal, two if the harvest is good. Another program aims to assist women, through training and micro-loans, to increase family revenue.
Thanks to all who took part. |
