Ten Ministers Fund 2011
At the worship service on February 13, The Reverend Stephen Kendall, Principal Clerk, General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada was our guest preacher as we celebrate The Ten Ministers' Fund. The Ten Ministers' Fund was started in 1948 by Dr. R. Berlis. Its intention is to send funds to ministers of the Presbyterian Church in Canada who are on minimum stipend and in need of encouragement. The recipients are chosen by the national office and we only know them if they correspond with us. Since its founding, A & P has supported 620 ministers located all across Canada. This year during the Sundays of Lent we will again have an offering envelope for The Ten Ministers' Fund so that we can reach out in 2011 to another 10 ministers of the Presbyterian Church in Canada who are in need of encouragement. It is our hope to continue to receive gifts to the fund so that we are able to give $10,000 annually. You are invited to be part of this annual generosity of A & P. Imagine, we have done this outreach and mission work for 62 years already. Katherine Sedgwick has found in the archives many letters and notes that have been received over 62 years from ministers encouraged by the Ten Ministers Fund. They tell of how they and their families, and especially their children have been touched by the generosity of the gift of hope, encouragement and compassion from our church. Look for these in the bulletins of Lent and in a brochure that we hope will become a part of our documented history. Let's Celebrate The Ten Ministers' Fund: 62 years and growing! |
