The process continuesThe first task of the 16-member Search Committee was to write a detailed profile of our congregation. This was done and approved by Session on June 3rd. The profile was approved by the Presbytery of Montreal on Tuesday, June 16th. The profile will be posted on our website after July 5 when the congration will officially be preached vacant. At its meeting of May 19, 2009, Presbytery approved the appointment of Rev. Rod Ferguson as stated supply for our church for the months of July through September. As stated supply, Mr. Ferguson is not the minister but someone who will do most of the preaching and provide pastoral care. He will work closely with Dr. Dale Woods, our Interim Moderator, to assist with the various ministries of the congregation. With the agreement of Session, the congregation and Mr. Ferguson, his term as stated supply could be extended past September. The Search Committee moved very rapidly to prepare the Congregational Profile in order to try and have it approved by Session and Presbytery prior to the summer recess. The high level of cooperation between Dr. Woods and the committee members gives us confidence that the search for the new minister will go forward expeditiously, yet thoughtfully. However, it is important to remember that we need to take the time to ensure that the minister we choose will be the best possible one for this congregation. |
